After using a friend's electric tiller I decided I needed one. I originally bought a Troy-Bilt TB154E 9-Inch 6.5-Amp Electric Garden Cultivator/Tiller, but it gave up the ghost 8 days after I had it. Upon returning it to the store I was told "try the Black and Decker." So I ordered this unit from Amazon and I'm VERY glad I did. This machine is only $50 more than the Troy-Bilt but is much more powerful and much more versatile, too. It's also more powerful and more versatile than the Mantis I'd borrowed from my friend. With its 8.3 amps and very high high torque, this Black & Decker unit hardly seems like it's straining.

Some things I like:

- The unit can operate on any blade combination. Multiple hitch pin holes in the axle allow you to use just one blade or two blades on one side, or one blade on each side,... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Can ya dig it?, March 12, 2012

Lots of trees .. blotchy grass spots. Soil .. very acidic and more like clay than dirt. After two years of fighting this never-ending battle, I decided its time to start over. I'll till the soil, add lime, peat moss, turf builder, then plant grass seed for limited sunlight. Sounds good, but where do I start? Way too many trees for a riding mower or a tractor; so my tilling, cultivating, plugging options are very limited. Considered renting something until I saw the rental fees. Rent one (for 2 days)or purchase this? Easy choice. The specs on this TL10 looked pretty good and over the years I've had many other Black & Decker power tools; so I took the plunge. OMG, what an awesome tool. This thing never skipped a beat. It was perfect! Only suggestion, a root must have snagged one of the cotter pins which held the tines, and off they came. Not the end of the earth (no pun intended), but a pain in the *#* to run to the hardware store for a replacement pin. Wish they'd have... Read more

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program ( What's this?)
I've only used two tillers. Gas powered and this Black & Decker Electric. I like the design. The top is a container that you can remove from the unit and fill with sand to weigh it down. I like the fact that it is removable since you may wish to dump the sand. Set up was very easy. All you need is a crescent wrench. Although even with the sand, it still is not as heavy as a gas powered unit. When I worked on seeding a new lawn I used a gas powered which was similar in size to this one. It worked very well. I used this unit to break up soil for new sod to be laid. The ground was pretty hard and even with sand, the Black and Decker model didn't seem to "cut" into the soil as easy. I had to stay in one spot for a few seconds and move it around for the soil to get broken up.

The only thing I thought could've been better was the mechanism for the trigger. When you turn on the unit, you lift the lever and it rests against the handle in your right hand. At times it... Read more
