Product Description
The Black & Decker LST136 13-inch 36-Volt Lithium High Performance Cordless String Trimmer uses a 36V lithium battery for a long runtime and plenty of power. It has a PowerCommand dial to choose between max power to tackle thick weeds and max runtime to increase battery life. The PowerDrive Transmission delivers more power from the motor to the cutting string so you can get the job done faster and the Automatic Feed Spool ensures continuous work without bumping and having to stop to adjust the spool. The trimmer easily converts to an edger with a turn of the shaft. Includes one battery and a Fast Charger (about 1 hour), spool, guard and Auxiliary Handle.

Initially it had one of those bump and grind line feeding thingies which drove me stark raving mad so I replaced it with this grass gator thingamajig which took pre-cut lengths of thicker, green-twizzler looking line. It worked great. I bought a huge spool of the line and cut it myself and have not had to buy line again in all those years.Now... this could partly be because I hate trimming so much that I don't do it as often as I should. I tend to do it when things really look bad, or when company is coming. While the trimmer itself works great, lugging all that cord around, switching outlets, having it come unplugged randomly, having to wind it all back up again in the end... drives me crazy. I keep thinking about a gas powered trimmer - but the maintenance scares me. Reviews of the cordless electrics have tended to be hit or miss. But we have had a 36v B&D cordless lawnmower for a few years... I never used it enough, and I always had a difficult time starting it. After looking at Stihl's battery offering ($400!), I decided to try this B&D.I was a little hesitant since B&D is not exactly commercial grade, but reviews at home center sites were very favorable. I LOVE THIS THING! My grass on the edges was loooong in addition to having various thick stalked flora to accompany my neglect. The trimmer had no issue with any of it. It cut through milkweed and other stalky weeds with ease. It is much lighter and far easier to handle than my Stihl trimmer; I had way less fatigue. My lot is about 16,000 ft2 with fences, landscaping stones, a hedge row, and 5 fully grown trees, and it did the whole thing on one charge. It was almost depleted at the end, but this wasn't a typical trim job as I had completely let it go for a year. The only thing I'm not completely... Lithium batteries have vastly improved the longevity of cordless tools, but I know that under heavy loads they are still not comparable to cored tools. However, the convenience of battery powered tools often out weights that shortcoming, and that is truly the case for me. I have a large yard that requires a cumbersome 150 feet cord to reach the corners with a cored string trimmer. I also have a gas trimmer, but it's difficult to start/operate, and my wife who does most of the yard work won't use it.I picked the B&D 36 volt, because based on my experience with cordless power tools, I know even 24 volt lithium can be marginal for medium to heavy-duty tasks. The B&D LSD136 also comes with a 30 Day Satisfaction Guarantee and 3 Year Full Warranty, which minimizes the risk. I was very surprised by the performance of this 36V B&D trimmer. I was far behind on the grass trimming, so I put it to the test. I did light... Read more |
